Darrell and Libby Today
Wow, 40 years – what a ride! We left Vance for C-130s at Pope AFB with our brand new son “DJ”. In less than 2 years we had our second son, Ryan, and they are the extent of our immediate family. My following assignments were to Randolph in Airlift Assignments, Maxwell for ACSC and then staff. Then to Rhein-Main AB, Germany where I was fortunate to command the 37th Tactical Airlift Squadron. From Germany we went to the Naval War College in Newport (our favorite assignment!) with a follow on to Personnel Programs at the Pentagon. Then we moved to HQ MAC at Scott AFB, to Kirtland AFB as Commander of Field Command Defense Nuclear Agency, to Dyess as the 7th Wing Vice (got to fly both C-130s and B-1s), and finally back to the AF Academy in the Air Base Wing for two years prior to retirement in 1999.
We stayed in Colorado Springs and I went to work in the insurance and investment business. Still doing that today, but have scaled back so we can travel to see our kids/grandkids.
Libby and I have 3 grandchildren, DJ’s 18 year old son Ean, and Ryan’s two daughters, Sydney 4, and Cassie 1. They’ve become the highlight of our lives. They all live in the Dallas area and trips to Texas are often.
We’ve been greatly blessed!
