After graduation I went first to Da Nang and then to NKP in EC-47's returning to the states in November of 1973. I was based at Grissom AFB in tankers from then till Sept of 1978 when I got off Active Duty, walked across the street and joined the Reserve unit that was just getting tankers. In December of 1974 I married Linda Hunteman who was a friend of mine at the University of Evansville. She was a school teacher. In October of 1978 I got hired by Delta Airlines. During my 27 year career I flew out of Chicago, Atlanta, Cincinnati, and New York finishing up as a 767 ER Captain flying internationally out of JFK. I retired from Delta earlier than I had planned in order to get out before they went into bankruptcy.
Linda quit teaching in 1978 and Matt was born in 1981. Our daughter Lacey was born in 1984. That year we moved to Peachtree City, GA just south of Atlanta and stayed there 7 years. When the Cincinnati base opened up we moved to Columbus, IN to be closer to both of our families. The entire time I remained in the Reserves at Grissom. I finally left Grissom in 1996 and held numerous positions from coast to coast till I finally landed in Air Force Acquisitions in the Pentagon where I retired on June 13th exactly 37 years after my commissioning.
We had two great careers with lots of fun, interesting people and places and few regrets.
Linda and I travel quite a bit and I'm active in Masons, Rotary and serve as a Disaster Volunteer for the Red Cross. I serve on several boards but don't get paid for any of them. I also work at a golf course here so I get to play for free. Matt is still single. Lacey got married in 2009. She and her husband live in Louisville, KY. No grandkids yet.
